I'm guessing you mean a straight razor (the folding type of razor). I had one several years ago, but never got up the nerve to shave my face completely with it. An electric razor would be nice, but I prefer shaving right after I shower. I'd put it off if I had an electric shaver because it's convenient and I could shave somewhere outside the bathroom sink.
See, I'm the opposite. I always shave right before a shower, so I can just wash up in the shower to easily deal with blood, shaving cream / gel / oil, or hair clippings. Not the best way when using a blade, but actually the recommended time to shave with an electric.

In the past I always used the cartrdige kind of razor. I was a sucker. Now I use an electric shaver which is convenient in a thousand ways, if not exactly a very interesting procedure. I have been thinking of switching to a safety/DE razor though, if only just to try it. Is it odd that I miss using shaving soap and stuff like that?
I know someone who
always uses an open blade razor, and is a real bore as he likes to proselytise about it.
I sorta like both as they both have their merits. Cartridge gets a smoother, closer shave, and depending on what you use, can be pretty pleasant. I got to liking King Of Shaves shaving oil. You don't need to use a ton of it. I usually shave with the grain once then against it, since I still feel like sandpaper otherwise. With the shaving oil, just one application of it lasts through both, unlike with gel or cream where you have to reapply anytime you're going over an area. It's also a thin coat / transparent basically, so you can actually see where you're shaving. I rarely use a blade anymore, but when I do, that's all I'll use.
I really do need to invest in a much better electric one of these days when I have the money. My first one was a super cheap rotary for like $20 on sale. My current is a foil for about $35 or 40 that worked a lot better initially. I'm sure the blades need replacing by now, but it's never worked great on anything past about 4 or 5 days growth.
